"Marriage is the most fundamental institution of civilization, and it should not be redefined by activist judges."
Amen, Mr. President! While we're at it, let's reinstate the miscegenation laws those activist judges tossed out.
"America is a free society which limits the role of government in the lives of our citizens. In this country, people are free to choose how they live their lives."
Except, of course, for the LGBT folk.
"19 states have held referendums to amend their state constitutions to protect the traditional definition of marriage."
Why does a definition have more rights than people?
"The fact is, state legislatures are trying to address this issue. (Applause.) But across the country, they are being thwarted by activist judges who are overturning the expressed will of their people."
Isn't that the role of the Judiciary Branch, to interpret the law? A judge is only called an activist when someone disagrees with his interpretation.
"All people deserve to have their voices heard and a constitutional amendment will ensure that they are heard."
How? By silencing the LGBT voices and ensuring the freedom to discriminate?
We are at war in Iraq and Afghanistan, with the possibility of another front arising in Iran. Poverty is on the rise. Illegal immigration is out of control. Our jails are filled to capacity. There are a myriad of real issues out there.
Yet our politicians prefer to spend their time in an election year posturing and trying to turn the Bill of Rights into a discriminatory document.
